The National Service Personnel Association of the Prestea Huni-Valley Municipal Assembly (NASPA-PHMA) has embarked on a massive clean-up exercise in Bogoso, a suburb of the Municipality.
The clean-up exercise which came off Monday, July 1 started from the Kokoase roundabout through the streets to the Bogoso main station with the Bogoso Community Health Center also benefitting.
The Municipal Chief Executive for Prestea Huni-Valley Assembly, Honourable Mozart Owuh, who was represented by the Deputy Environmental Health Officer, Mr Isaac Philip Torxoe bemoaned the sanitation challenges created by residents stating, it cripples the Assembly with huge costs.
“Our waste generation is very high as a Municipal Assembly. The Assembly, however, incurs a lot of cost in clearing the filth generated”, he stated, adding that the Assembly is pleased with the gesture by the service personnel which is in line with the Assembly’s vision of improving sanitation within the Municipality in order to reduce the absurd costs incurred in addressing the sanitation challenges generated.
The Bogoso Area Council Chairman, Mr Samuel Kweku Ofori expressed gratitude to the service personnel for the exercise, stating; “he is surprised”. This move, he explained has never been done over the past three years by any badge of service personnel.
“I want to congratulate the service personnel within this Municipality for this great initiative. In fact, I am surprised. Having been an Assembly member over three years, no service badge has ever taken it upon themselves to do this kind of service to the nation”, he disclosed.
The President of the Association, Mr Michael Blessing has indicated that the exercise forms part of the first phase of the Association’s community investment initiatives.
“We as national service personnel within the Prestea Huni-Valley Municipal Assembly intend to hold a two-phase cleanup exercise. Today happens to be the first phase. This gesture forms part of the Association’s community investment initiatives”, he noted.
He added that; “the second phase forms part of the Association’s week celebration which starts from the 16th to 22nd July 2018”.
He was optimistic the clean-up exercise would go a long way of getting rid the Municipality of filth that has engulfed it.
The service personnel were joined by members of the Bogoso Area Council and staff from the Municipal Assembly with their cleaning equipments in sweeping the streets and desilting choked gutters.
