Mr. Isaac Osei Agyeman, Kintampo South District Director of National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), has said chiefs and the clergy involving themselves in partisan politics are not helping the development of the country.
He made the observation at a dialogue attended by chiefs, representation of various political parties and security agencies at Jema.
Mr. Agyeman said there was the need for political parties to educate their activists to obey the code of conduct of political parties’ law and refrain from the use of intemperate language in their campaigns.
He expressed concern about the manner party activists were intimidating their opponents and defacing their posters- an act which was against the law.
Madam Salamat Bashir, Kintampo South District Director of Electoral Commission (EC), said the EC was determined to create an atmosphere of peace and stability in the up-coming general election and advised political parties to appoint literates to represent them at the various polling stations.
Madam Bashir called on chiefs, the police, media and religious bodies to contribute their quota in ensuring free and fair elections as the elections approaches.
Madam Joyce Kwarkye, a retired educationist, appealed to political parties to be sincere in displaying their posters at vantage areas and should seek permission from landlords before pasting them on their premises.
