Techiman, Aug 7, GNA - Mr Pierre Kwabena Ankomah, Techiman Municipal Director of National Commission for Civic Education, has advised the youth initiate programmes to protect the environment and create awareness on HIV/AIDS and to avoid drug addiction.
In an address read on his behalf at the launch of the National Service Week celebration in the municipality, Mr Ankomah said noted that while there was nothing wrong with the youth getting involved in politics, they should present analytical facts and avoid inflammatory language.
"As part of your participation in politics, the youth must take part in local government politics, especially in the District Assembly and Unit Committee elections and learn to serve the people at the grassroots level in order to mature to do national politics."
Mr Yuama Beniako, Municipal Co-ordinator of the National Service Secretariat, said lack of accommodation was a major problem facing Service Personnel.
He thanked the Municipal Assembly for granting the Secretariat a 1.8 million-cedi loan to rent three rooms as temporary transit quarters for personnel posted to the municipality but appealed for assistance to acquire permanent accommodation.
The service personnel earlier in the day spent four hours cleaning some streets.
NASPA donated 500,000 cedis for the upkeep of HIV/AIDS patients at the Holy Family Hospital in Techiman.
