The Asante-Akim South District Director of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), Mr. Samuel Otchere, has appealed to the people to play by the rules to make the district level elections non-partisan.

He said persuading voters to elect candidates on the basis of political party leaning or association was wrong and could defeat the decentralization concept, adding that it was important for everybody to accept to do the right things to strengthen the local governance system.

Mr. Otchere made the call at a public education forum held at Amanfrom to whip up the interest of the people in the coming elections and get every eligible voter out to vote.

He told the gathering that they should give their mandate to only candidates they were convinced could help to bring progress to their community and that their choice must be influenced by hard work, proven competence, dedication and commitment to development.

Touching on the unit committees, Mr Otchere said they should avoid the mistakes of the past where people voted to the committees abandoned the job they had been entrusted with soon after their election.

He also advised the contestants to ensure clean campaign devoid of acrimony and insults.

Nana Adu Gyekye, the chief of the community, gave the assurance that everything would be done to encourage the people to turn out in their numbers to vote on polling day
