Gunshots were reportedly fired on Sunday at the voter registration center in the Sagnarigu constituency in the Northern Region.

The ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) are accusing each other of being responsible for the incident.

Emerging details indicate that the gunshots were fired after a vehicle arrived at the registration center, carrying individuals intending to register for their voter cards. An argument ensued, following which unidentified gunmen stormed the center and began shooting.

Abdallah A. Baba, the Northern Regional Organizer for the NDC, accused the NPP of orchestrating the incident.

He stated that NDC members had arrived at the center peacefully when armed men emerged from nearby bushes and started firing. He alleged that these armed individuals were NPP members acting under instructions from the area's leadership.

However, Alhaji Musah Fuseini Dangoomah, the NPP Chairman for the Sagnarigu constituency, contested these claims.

He countered that the armed men were affiliated with the NDC. He asserted that the NPP is committed to a peaceful registration process and refutes the allegations.

In the meantime, both parties have called on the Police to investigate the incident and bring the perpetrators to justice.
