Bolgatanga, June 21, GNA - The General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr Josiah Aryeh at the weekend charged supporters of the Party to show more commitment to its campaign to ensure victory in Election 2004.

Addressing a group of Party loyalists in Bolgatanga, he tasked them to carry positive messages to the people by observing the situation on the ground, instead of pursuing the path of confrontation and violence. Dr Aryeh accused the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) of sidelining the three Northern Regions in political appointments, saying a travel across the country had shown that for the three and a half years that the Party had been in power, the regions had been neglected and ignored. He said the NDC had a people-centred policy in terms of development and that it would work hard to ensure peace and fairness during the campaign and impending election.

The National Women's Organizer, Madam Francisca Asiamah, emphasized the important role women and the youth could play in the campaign strategy of the NDC and called on its leadership to accord them due recognition.

Madam Asiamah appealed to women and youth activists of the Party to respect the electorate and relate very well to them to be able to convince them to vote for the Party.

A member of the campaign team, Mr Kofi Portuphy said the mission of the NDC was to win the election through democratic means by conducting primaries in all constituencies to elect its parliamentary candidates instead of imposing candidates on the people.

Mr Portuphy appealed to Party members, who had not had their photographs taken, to take advantage of the mop-up exercise to do so. He said dedicated youth should be identified and trained as polling agents and campaign team members.

Members of the campaign team included Major Regent Achaab (rtd), former Ambassador to Burkina Faso, and Madam Hilda Salifu, National Vice Chairperson of the Party.
