Accra, March 12, GNA - The Executive Members of the Odododiodio Constituency branch of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has called for the removal of 18 of the 116 registration and polling centres in the constituency from the National Voters' Register.
They said the centres are situated in non-residential areas, which "encourage the abuse of registration exercise."
They made the call on Friday at a press briefing to throw light on a petition sent to the Electoral Commission (EC), to delete the centres from the list of registration and polling centres from the constituency. Mr Daniel Nii Okai, constituency chairman said, "people who did not live in the constituency falsify their personal data and proceed to get their names on the voters register and go to their proper places of abode to register properly with their real documents."
Mr Okai stated that registration centres in the constituency should be restricted to places of residence to enhance credible voters register in the forthcoming registration exercise.
"We believe that if the registration centres are restricted to the residential areas of the constituency, the issue of Aliens or under-age people registering will be eliminated once and for all."
The registration and polling centres mentioned were the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) Head Office, Independence Avenue Junior Secondary School, Water and Sewerage Yard Numbers One and Two, State Insurance Company Numbers One and Two; Fire Service Yards Number One and Two; Ayalolo Six and Eight Primary Schools
The rest are Ashiedu Keteke Central Market AMA Yard A; Ashiedu Keteke Central Market AMA Yard B; Ashiedu Keteke Central Market Internal Revenue Service Yard A; Ashiedu Keteke Central Market Internal Revenue Service Yard B; Railways Yard Number 1A; Railways Yard Number One B and Railways Yard Number Two.
