NDC youth undertakes cleanup

Techiman (B/A) June 15, GNA - Mr Simon Addai, National Democratic congress (NDC) Parliamentary candidate for Techiman South stated at the weekend that the New Patriotic Party's (NPP's) message in the 2000 electioneering campaign was deceptive.

"They have totally deviated from their campaign promises of offering Ghanaians free education, paying the aged and the creation of 750,000 jobs within 100 days in office", he said.

Addressing the youth and women's wings of NDC that participated in a six-hour cleanup exercise at Techiman, the aspiring MP said "the NPP has played the greatest hoax in Ghana's political history".

The two NDC wings cleaned up the surroundings of the Holy Family and Ahmadiyya Hospitals, Zongo Roundabout and some principal streets. Mr Addai stressed: "Now that the youth have realized that they were deceived to kick against the wisdom of their elders, they will have to pay back the NPP in their own coin by voting them out."

Mr John Owusu-Agyeman, a Solicitor and a Leading Member of the Party, noted that the promise of equality by the NPP government had become a mirage and Ghanaians had realized that they had been deceived.

Alhaji Yussif Nasiru, Constituency Chairman of NDC, asked the members to intensify their campaign drive to rope in more members into the Party, whose only interest was to see to the well-being of the people.

Mr Sulemana Owusu, Deputy Brong Ahafo Regional Youth Organizer and Organizer for the constituency, said the exercise had afforded members the opportunity to adopt pragmatic measures towards this year's general election.

"Since NDC stands for cleanliness, development and the well-being of the country, you should sensitise the people about this ideology in the churches and mosques to ensure that the Party wins back power in the 2004 elections", he said.

Mr Mohammed Alhassan, Techiman Youth Chairman of the Party, said he was optimistic that the activity had shown clearly an encouragement that the NDC would recapture power.

Dr Ben Boateng, Medical Officer in-charge of the Holy Family Hospital and Dr Rashid Ahmed of the Ahmadiyya Hospital expressed satisfaction with the exercise and asked other groups and organizations to emulate the Party.
