The National Democratic Party (NDP) leadership has saluted women for their immense contribution towards national development.

In a release issued by the communication directorate, the NDP wished all mothers a happy Mothers’ Day and asked that God would give them spiritual strength to continue their demanding role in the society.

The party, led by the former first lady, Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings, observed that, “Mothers of Ghana have played a significant role in the socio-economic development of our country. Be it on the farms; in the boardrooms; in the markets or in the home, mothers continue to impact our communities positively, sometimes to the complete disregard of their own interest”.

It sated that by virtue of their position as child bearers and nurturers, they contributed immensely to moulding the character of their children because they primarily instilled the essence of a child’s attitude to life, to society, to the family unit and to spirituality.

“Mothers are therefore role models not by choice, but by a social responsibility in ensuring the sustainability of our communities and our nation as a whole”.

Mothers’ Day, according to the party, is a day to celebrate the sacrifices that women have made in history and continue ardently to make to ensure that children, who are the future of our nation, develop a sense of responsibility towards the sustenance and progress of our country.

The NDP “salutes Ghanaian mothers for the contribution and sacrifices they make towards the sustainability of the family unit and the preservation of our cultural norms; and towards the development of our nation”.

The NDP urged mothers to speak against violence in their homes and in their communities.

“We are calling on mothers to stand together with courage and speak with one voice against spousal and child abuse. We also urge mothers to be attentive to their children in order to protect them from any form of abuse; and to encourage the educational and social development of their children,” it indicated.
