Wa, Feb.2 GNA - The Non-Formal Education Division (NFED) of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports, has presented incentive packages valued at over 500 million cedis to facilitators of the Adult Literacy programme in the Upper West Region.
The incentives included 456 bicycles, 237 packets of roofing sheets and 24 sewing machines.
Speaking to the Ghana News Agency at Wa on Tuesday, Mr Abdullah Bin Salih, Regional Director of NFED said the items were the first consignment of packages earmarked for distribution to the facilitators who were trained since 1996.
"We are sufficiently equipped with logistics and materials to enable us carry out our duties effectively and our gratitude should therefore reflect in our output."
Mr Bin Salih said the NFED had plans to train about 50,000 additional facilitators.
He lauded the programme, saying some primary school dropouts in the Wa Municipality have used the literacy classes as springboard to pursue higher education.
Mr Bin Salih said the programme was being expanded to embrace the blind and the deaf and facilitators would be trained to cater for them. 02 Feb. 05
