Tetrem (Ash), May 26, GNA - Life Focus-Ghana, a non-governmental organisation (NGO) based in Kumasi has identified and adopted more than 300 deprived and needy persons in the Ashanti region for assistance and rehabilitation.

They include school dropouts, street children, brilliant but needy students, physically impaired persons, widows and widowers, orphans and other destitutes. Mr Edward Yeboah, Director of the organization, disclosed this when he interacted with 40 identified brilliant but needy students of the Osei Tutu II College at Tetrem in the Afigya-Sekyere District at the weekend. The organisation has adopted 25 female and 15 male students and offered them scholarships to complete their three-year secondary education.

Mr Yeboah observed that the poverty level in the society had denied many innocent persons of the right to good life, education, and training and improved living standards. He said the NGO was committed to the training, encouragement, support and rehabilitation of the deprived in the society to enable them to be economically self-dependent.

He pointed out that it was the responsibility of every meaningful Ghanaian to help the poor and needy in the society and noted that the organization would liaise with some established government, institutions and agencies to identify more deprived persons for assistance. Mr Yeboah said the government alone could not provide all the basic needs of the citizenry and that other agencies should also complement its efforts.

Mr Samuel Ekuoba Gyasi, headmaster of the college, commended Life Focus - Ghana for its laudable activities and expressed the hope that the gesture would be extended to other communities throughout the country. 26 May 07
