Tamale, May 20, GNA - A Tamale-based NGO that provides humanitarian and development services to deprived and needy communities on Friday presented 400 dual desks and 24 book shelve lockers costing 160 million cedis to four basic schools in Tamale.
The beneficiary schools included the Hassiyania Primary, Gbayammi Methodist Primary, Choggu Yapalsi Primary and Gurugu Islamic Primary schools.
Mr Abdul Samed Seidu, Acting Programmes Manager of the Regional Advisory Information and Network Systems (RAINS) who made the presentation, said RAINS' school improvement program would continue to assist deprived schools to enhance teaching and learning. He said the measure was to ensure all-inclusive education for all children irrespective of gender and background and expressed the hope that RAINS programs would help reduce illiteracy in the Northern Region. Mr Samed said RAINS drew its support from World Children Relief (WCR), a US-based NGO and Campaign For Female Education (CAMFED) a British-based NGO.
Mrs Zenabu Gybiliru from the Tamale Metropolitan Education office received the desks on behalf of the schools and commended RAINS efforts to solve problems of education in the region.
She said the Metro office of the GES recognized the contribution of RAINS in the education sector and appealed to other NGOs operating in the region to emulate RAINS.
