Shama(W/R),Oct.24, GNA - C.K.Mann Charity Foundation, a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), on Monday presented school uniforms and stationary to 11 needy pupils at Shama.

Mrs Angelina Baiden-Amissah, Deputy Minister of Education and Sports and Member of Parliament for Shama, who received the items, called on NGO's to supplement the Government's effort to provide education to needy children and raise standard of education in the area. She said most of the people in the area were poor therefore; most parents could not cater for their children.

Mrs Baiden-Amissah regretted that some children of school-going age had not been enrolled in schools.

Mr C. K. Mann, an ace musician and the Founder of the Foundation, who presented the items, said he grew up as a street child but managed to succeed with his career through the benevolence of some people. He said this was the rationale for the establishment of the Foundation to assist street children to be educated.

Mr Benjamin Otoo, Shama-Ahanta East Director of the Department of Social Welfare, asked parents not to neglect their responsibilities towards their children.

He said the country's child maintenance laws required parents to be responsible for their children.

Mr Otoo said parents who failed in their responsibilities would be sanctioned under the law.
