NGO establishes tree seedling nursery at Kazigu

Students and Youth Travel Organization (SYTO), a youth-based non-governmental organization (NGO) has established tree seedling nursery at Kazigu in the Kassena-Nankana West District, as part of a five-year reforestation programme.

Mr. Rusmond Anyinah, Programmes Development Manager of SYTO, disclosed this at a mini durbar to launch an environmental rehabilitation programme at Kazigu, organized by the NGO and the Canadian World Youth.

He said the programme was aimed at protecting the environment and reducing the effects of climate change.

Mr. Anyina called on the people to plant trees to serve as wind break and reduce the effects of climate change.

He commended the Savannah Accelerated Development Authority for initiating the Northern Savannah Afforestation Project, to plant five million trees in the next five years in the savannah ecological zone.

Mr. Anyina said the NGO has supported the construction of eight household latrines at Kazigu at a cost of GH¢3,000 this year.

The chief of Kazigu, Kazigu Pe Parekuri Aluah, called on the people, particularly the youth, to support environmental protection programmes.**
