Women’s Health to Wealth (WHW), a non-governmental organization has launched a handbook which will serve as resource manual for groups and other stakeholders engaged in the positive upbringing and the growth process as well as life skills acquisition of the girl-child.
The sixteen chapter book covers topics such as sex, reproductive health, human rights, child education, and financial literacy.
Madam Abena Akuamoah Boateng, the Executive Director of WHW, said the contents of the handbook were carefully selected based on the issues identified in the various communities it operated in.
According to her, the book titled “Strong girls make strong women”, has been written in easily readable contexts which could be used by groups in churches, schools, community clubs, homes, government non-governmental agencies.
She said WHW which is a consortium of Women Strong International, was established in 2015, with the aim of engendering healthier and wealthy women for the progress and development of the Ashanti Region.
It is currently operating in eight Districts and Municipalities- Afigya Kwabre, Kwabre East, Kumasi Metro, Asokore Mampong, Bosomtwi, Atwima Kwanwoma, Atwima Nwabiagya and Ejisu.
Madam Akuamoah Boateng said WHW would continue to build girls’ self-esteem, boost their confidence, provide opportunities to learn and acquire the life skills necessary for them to achieve their goals.
Mr. Simon Osei Mensah, the Ashanti Regional Minister, in a speech read on his behalf, commended WHW for working in the areas of health, education and economic empowerment in a bid to bring progress to girls.
He encouraged them to work harder “to help one another, to achieve their dreams,” adding that “Ghana needs more prolific girls and women to take part in its developmental agenda”.
