Berekum (B/A), June 5, GNA- Remnant Relief and Development Organization (REDRO), a non-governmental organization (NGO) at Berekum on Friday presented items worth about 320 million cedis to some organizations and people with disabilities in the Berekum and Jaman districts of Brong-Ahafo.
The items included computers and accessories, wheelchairs, bales of clothing, and electric-controlled beds.
The beneficiaries included Berekum Holy Family Hospital, Drobo St. Mary's Hospital in the Jaman district, Berekum district Police, Department of Social Welfare, Biadan Children's Home, New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Evangelist Paul Osei Agyeman, Director of REDRO who is also the Managing Director of Shalom F.M. radio station at Berekum explained that it was the aim of the organization to promote computer literacy in the area.
Mr. Agyemang appealed to the Government to direct more attention to the plight of the needy.
He urged politicians, media practitioners and security personnel to be circumspect in their activities and be guided by democratic principles for free and fair elections.
Superintendent Johnson Owusu Agyemang, Berekum District Police Commander who presided expressed appreciation for the gesture, saying it was the first time since its establishment that the Police Station at Berekum had gained access to computer.
Mr. Kwabena Abankwa, a Disabled Music Tutor at Berekum Secondary School who received one of the electronic-controlled wheelchairs, on behalf of his colleagues, thanked Mr. Agyemang and the NGO and appealed to the police service to seriously deal with people who impregnated physically challenged and abandoned them.
