Sunyani, July 18, GNA - Mr Prince Charles Kofi Monphy, founder of Monphy and the Youth, an NGO based in Nkoranza in Brong-Ahafo, on Friday, presented an ambulance and eleven hospital beds to the regional hospital in Sunyani.

The items were valued at GHC 25,000.

Making the presentation at a short ceremony, Mr Monphy, a citizen of Nkoranza and resident in Japan, said the donation was part of the NGO's contribution to promoting quality health care delivery in the country.

He explained that the items were made available with the support of other Nkoranza citizens in Japan and Mr Kwame Ampofo Twumasi, Member of Parliament for Nkoranza South.

Mr Monphy said in 2009 the NGO presented an ambulance and other medical equipment to the St. Theresa's hospital at Nkoranza and had sunk two boreholes in some deprived communities in Nkoranza South district.

The NGO has also made available educational materials including reading and exercise books to be distributed to basic schools in the districts and had registered 500 people under the National Health Insurance Scheme, he stated.

Dr. Emmanuel Tenkorang, Regional Director of Health said the hospital, as the major referral facility in the region, needed adequate modern medical equipment, as well as doctors and nurses.

He advised the hospital's management to take proper care of the items.

Mr Kwadwo Nyamekye-Marfo, Regional Minister, said government alone cannot shoulder all the responsibilities of national development and advised Ghanaians, especially those resident abroad, to lend their support.

He entreated the hospital's management and staff to maintain a cordial relationship with clients whilst the government worked hard to improve their conditions of services.

Dr. Jacob Abebrese, medical superintendent, who received the items thanked the donor for the items and appealed to other NGOs and philanthropists to emulate Monphy and the Youth.
