The International Needs Ghana (INGH), a non-governmental organisation at the weekend presented training tools and accessories worth GH¢9,500 for the training of 19 trainees in various vocational fields.
The tools would facilitate the skill training of the beneficiaries in the field of catering, hairdressing, dressmaking and tailoring, electronic, photography, air condition repairing and graphic designing with the idea of eliminating and protecting them from commercial sexual exploitation.
Mrs Joyce Odame, Child Rights Programme Manager, INGH said the organisation had targeted 500 youth between 12-18 years who were falling victims.
She explained that the skill training is part of the organisation’s commercial sexual exploitation three-year project in six communities in Accra.
Mrs Odame said: "We are currently working in six communities in Accra, namely La, Osu, Accra New Town, Maamobi, Nima and Malam Atta where beneficiaries were taken through series of counselling to enlighten them in their field of training.”
She noted that there are plans to enroll those who were interested in formal education into schools within their localities and discussions are on-going with the Ghana Education Service.
Nii Amasah Namoale, Member of Parliament for Dade Kotopon, commended the organisation for the interest in improving the life conditions of the youth in the community.
He urged parents to motivate their children to benefit from the programme.
Nii Namoale called on the trainees to be dedicated to their choice of training.
