NGO spends ?400,000 for projects in the North

Accra, Oct 13, GNA - Mrs Ann Cotton, Director of Campaign for Female Education (CAMP FED), on Monday said her group had spent over 400,000 pounds sterling on project undertaken in the Northern region. Mrs Cotton, who is also the founder of the international non-governmental organisation (NGO) also said over 6000 female students at the various senior secondary schools and another 500 females in the region engaged in vocational and micro projects have also been supported this year.

She was speaking to newsmen after arrival at the Kotoka International Airport in Accra on Monday for a week's inspection visit of CAMP FED projects.

Mrs Cotton observed that although there were sound educational systems in Africa several women were out of school. She said it was the aim of CAMP FED to change the situation for the better adding that in Ghana most of the NGO's activities were in the Northern Region.

Mrs Cotton said the CAMP FED also sought to teach women in the Northern Region skills to enable them to earn a livelihood thereby curbing the rural-urban drift of the youth in search of greener pastures.

She said CAMP FED was not only catering for deprived children but was also put up buildings for deprived schools. Accompanying her was Ms Susan Bold a member of the CAMP FED Board of US.

Madam Hawa Yakubu Member of Parliament for Bawku Central and a member of the board was at the airport to welcome the delegation.
