NGO to assist 15 communities in Ejura-Sekyedumase District

Kyenkyenkura-Ashanti, Oct. 5, GNA - The management of Q-AID Ghana, an NGO has earmarked 1,230,000 Ghana cedis for the provision of development projects in 15 communities in Ejura-Sekyedumase District. Mr Justice Teye Odonkor, Director of Operations of the NGO who announced this said about 880,000 Ghana cedis had been released for the two-year project to commence.

Mr Odonkor was speaking at a sod cutting ceremony for work to begin on a teacher's bungalow at Kyenkyenkura near Ejura. He said 140 teachers would be accommodated within the first phase of the project that would include provision of physical infrastructure and language literacy.

Some of the beneficiary communities are, Kyenkyenkura, Dwene Woho, Mbanaa, Dijau, Fame Hye Baabi, Zambrama, Anyinasu, Drobon, Ejura, Frante, Kasaam and Dwaaho.

In addition to the provision of teachers' quarters, Mbanaa, Dijau and Fame Hye Baabi would benefit from six unit classrooms each. Mr Odonkor said the NGO had signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the assembly to provide fuel, feeding, technical supervision and land from the communities to execute the projects.

Dr Joshua Ayarkwa, Ejura-Sekyedumase District Chief Executive said the area had been transformed under the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Government with improvement in education, health, water and sanitation, roads and rural electrification. He urged the people to recognise Government's efforts and vote to retain it in power to continue with its good works. Dr Ayarkwa who is also the NPP Ejura-Sekyedumase Parliamentary Aspirant said his vision to improve and develop education in the district had been realized and called on the people to support the NGO to ensure early completion of the project.

He pledged the assembly's commitment to facilitate implementation of the project towards the establishment of Junior High Schools in the area while teachers posted to the district would be provided with bicycles and other logistics to perform efficiently and effectively. Mr Zimi Torah, Assistant Director of Education and Assemblyman for Kyenkyenkura called for the extension of electricity to the area and rehabilitation of Kyenkyenkura-Dromankoma road on the main Ejura-Atebubu road to improve their living standards. 05 Oct. 08
