A Sunyani based
Non Governmental Organisatiom, Mission of Hope, is to partner the Brong-Ahafo
region of the Ghana Tourism Authority to develop tourism in the region.
The NGO’s
intervention would be in the areas of capacity building, sharing information
using the community media as well as stakeholders consultation.
The
Executive Director of the organisation, Mr. Gabriel Gbiel Benarkuu told Storm
FM in Sunyani that his outfit has the tourism component under its Livelihood Programme
support is given to traditional authorities to initiate programmes related to
ecotourism.
Mr.
Benarkuu observed that tourism is a pillar of huge income generation but
unfortunately, the sector has been poorly managed in the region.
He added
that the poor management of tourism in the region is not because the region
does not have the capacity but rather due to the lack of awareness of policies
supporting tourism.
“Tourism
can best help raise good revenue as well as bring about environmental practices
and afforestation”, he said.
Meanwhile,
the Deputy Brong-Ahafo regional Director of the Ghana Tourism Authority, Mr
Joseph Appiagyei, has called on the private sector to synergise with the authority
to push tourism
development agenda forward.
He also
appealed to the various district assemblies in the region to partner the
authority to effectively develop tourism in their areas.
Mr
Appiagyei noted that effective marketing and publicity of the region would
greatly enhance tourism in the region.
