Accra, March 11, GNA - An Information Communication Technology (ICT) breakfast meeting for girls would be held in Accra on Saturday, March 15, to promote the use and study of ICT especially among young girls.

The meeting being organized by Ghanaian High-Tech Women (GHW) an NGO that encourages entry, sustaining and development for women working in the ICT sector is the first of its kind and would encourage exchange of ideas and mentorship for young girls.

Mrs Ama Pomaa Andoh, Director of GHW in a statement issued in Accra on Tuesday said Ghanaian women run the risk of being excluded from the opportunities offered by ICT without which women in developing countries like Ghana "would lag behind in these modern times". She said the programme being organized in collaboration with Cisco Systems Incorporated, IGNITE; USA and the Community Technology Centre Network, all ICT firms recognized the need to address the current gender digital divide.

"Through training programmes, personal presentation, field trips, job shadows and other events, girls meet women and mentors whose stories inspire hope, expand possibilities and lend support to girls at critical times in their lives," Mrs Andoh said.

She noted that ICT had become a powerful force for transforming social, economic and political life around the globe and stressed the need for especially Ghanaian women to be involved in the global change.
