Non-governmental organizations (NGOs) have been urged to do more to help provide adequate protection to children.
Barima Akwasi Amankwaah, Programme Officer of the Ghana Non-Governmental Organizations Coalition of the Rights of the Child (GNCRC), said they should incorporate child protection issues into their activities.
This, he said, could significantly assist to bring down the incidence of child neglect, trafficking and their engagement in hazardous work.
He was speaking at the close of a three-day training of trainers’ workshop on child safety held in Kumasi.
Organized by the GNCRC, it was attended by representatives of some NGOS, selected journalists and officials from the Ghana Education Service (GES).
It was meant to aid them to appreciate the roles they could play to promote child welfare and development.
Barima Amankwaah reminded government agencies including the Women and Children Ministry, Department of Social Welfare and the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) of the police to work hard to prevent child abuse.
Mr Haruna Yoda, Programme Officer of the Environmental Protection Association of Ghana (EPAG), appealed to the media to highlight issues affecting the growth and development of children.
