Mr Francis Oti, Acting Eastern Regional Manager of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), has tasked personnel of the Scheme to help erase the negative perception that the scheme is collapsing.
He asked them to strengthen team work, performance and management systems, technology, monitoring and supervision and corporate culture “because these are key areas that can lead to high productivity”.
Mr Oti was speaking at the Mid-Year Review Meeting of the operations of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) in the Region at Kwahu-Pepease in the Kwahu East District.
The two-day event is on the theme: “Improving Performance in Operations for a sustainable NHIS.”
“As stakeholders, we are burdened with the sustainability of the scheme hence the need for platforms like this to examine our operations and to deliberate on the way forward to improve performance,” he said.
Mr Oti said the meeting would among other things look at performance in maintaining and registering new members for the scheme, achieved financial targets so far and customer satisfaction.
He indicated that the performance of individual districts had improved, culminating in regional active population of 1,182,164, representing 44.90 per cent of the regional population.
Mr Oti said claims processing is being done electronically through the introduction of e-claims project to bring efficiency and reduce turnaround time in claims processing.
“This is being piloted in four hospitals in the region.”
He said St Martin’s Hospital at Agomanya, and Jubilee Hospital at Akyem Oda had commenced operations while Tetteh Quarshie Memorial Hospital at Mampong Akuapem and Koforidua Regional Hospital would start later in the year.
