Dr Williams Ahadzie, Executive Secretary of the National Identification Authority (NIA) on Thursday said the NIA would train its officials to educate the citizenry about the security features of the Ghana Card.

He said the NIA had received several requests from many institutions such as financial institutions and Micro Credit Companies to train them on how to identify the security features of the Ghana Card, when being used by customers to transact business.

Dr Ahadzie disclosed this to the Ghana News Agency in an interview in Accra.

He said the NIA would emphasis on the education of the Legislative Instrument passed by Parliament and called for support from Ghanaians.

Dr Ahadzie said the regulations was now an existing law governing all Ghanaians and would allow some eligible foreign residents recognised by the Ghanaian authorities to register as second class citizens.

He said the Ghana Card could serve as a travel document to Ghanaians, who posses it and allow for transaction of business and services in and outside the country.

Dr Ahadzie said the NIA would accept requests from the institutions and train them at a cost, which the Authority was yet to fix.

He pointed out that the biometric voters registration exercise stopped the registration of the NIA in some parts of the country and would continue next week.

Dr Ahadzie said government was sourcing for funds to complete the exercise in the rest of the country yet to be covered.**
