Takoradi, Aug 17, GNA - The fourth NIIT training centre in the country was launched in Takoradi on Tuesday with a call on the people to take advantage of the facility to improve Information Technology awareness and expertise in the Western Region.
Launching it Mr Joseph Boahen Aidoo, the Regional Minister, said efficient IT education and training would further enhance human resource and capacity building in the country's transition into the digital society and knowledge economy.
He said NIIT, with its experienced personnel and unique business model and training methodology, the country has a lot to gain in areas such as software development, Internet applications, Web technologies, office automations and database systems.
NIIT, which has training centres in Accra, Kumasi and Achimota, in collaboration with the government, is offering basic computer and Internet training to traditional leaders in the country. Mr Aidoo said the government has embarked on key strategic initiatives to augment the contributions from private institutions like NIIT to enhance the objective to make Ghana the IT hub of the West African sub-region.
The Regional Minister appealed to NIIT to keep its excellent work and bring out more talented IT professionals who would rub shoulders with other professionals worldwide to make Ghana proud.
Mr Kapil Gupta, the NIIT Country Director, said IT has contributed to the transformation of lives of individuals, corporate bodies, governments and nations in a manner that no other technology had done. He said NIIT has confidence in the Ghanaian economy and would try to be in the forefront of IT in the country by collaborating and coordinating its activities with both public and private institutions.
