Enchi (W/R), Nov. 20, GNA - Mr Samuel Adu-Gyamfi, a tutor of Enchi Training College, has been elected to contest the Aowin-Suaman Constituency parliamentary seat on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party in the 2004 general elections.

He polled 102 votes to beat Mr E. K. Osei of the Customs Excise and Preventive Service (CEPS), who had 36 votes at the party's primaries held at Enchi last Saturday.

A total of 145 delegates voted at the congress that was supervised by Mr Yaw Opoku, the Aowin-Suaman District Elections Officer.

Mr Opoku told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in an interview that preparations were underway to conduct the District and Unit Committee elections in the Suaman-Dadieso traditional area, also in the Western Region.

He said the people who had earlier boycotted the elections due to a protracted chieftaincy dispute had expressed their willingness to allow the elections to take place.

Mr Opoku said interested candidates have started filing their nominations that would close on December 12. The elections would be held on December 16 this year.

He said the elections would be held in seven electoral and three unit areas within the Suaman-Dadieso traditional area.

Mr Opoku appealed to the National Commission for Civic Education, the EC and other relevant bodies, to intensify their education on electoral procedures for the electorates before the elections.
