NPP to restore political heritage

Wa, Feb. 23, GNA - The New Patriotic Party (NPP) is organising a nation-wide educational programme for its executives on how to prevent confrontation among party members during electioneering campaign for this year's general election, to restore the party's heritage.

Mr Mustapha Hameed, NPP National Youth Organiser, who announced this at Wa at the weekend, said Ghana had risen above insults and character assassination that had characterized political activities in some African countries.

The Youth Organiser, who was speaking at a two-day sensitisation programme organised by the party for its over 100 executives, said the NPP had established democratic values to avoid making mistakes of the past.

Mr Hameed said the NPP had launched the "Operation Restore Heritage" programme to reclaim its strongholds throughout the country and to sensitise the people on the need to support the party's good policies.

He expressed regret that although most of the founders of the United Party tradition came from the Upper West Region, many people there had abandoned the party and its legacy.

He mentioned Mr S.D. Dombo, Mr B.K. Adama, Naa Abayifa Karbo and Jato Kaleo as some of the initiators and appealed to the people to immortalize them by voting massively for the NPP in this year's election to restore the party's tradition in the Region.

Mr Hameed said: "We shall move throughout the country to bring back the party's heritage, which was taken away by our political opponents because of their numerous lies and falsehood."

He accused the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for using the organs of the 31st December Revolution to win the 1992 and 1996 elections.

Mr Hameed, however, said: "But now the NDC can never come back to power because the people now know the difference between truth and naked lies."

Mr Kofi Afari, NPP Press Secretary, condemned people who wrote letters under pen names in newspapers to discredit the NPP government. He requested them to engage NPP officials in debate on issues that they could not understand instead of resorting to such unhealthy practice.

Mr Afari said: "The people are now enlightened and know the difference between our government and the past administrations so allow them to make their choices and stop poisoning their minds".
