Melchia Investments Ghana Limited (MIGL) in collaboration with the National Service Secretariat (NSS) and NAWABIN has launched the 2016/2017 Urban Sanitation Module of the National Service Scheme.

The module which is the 2nd face of the project was held at the Institute of Local Government Studies in Accra under the theme; “Empowering the Youth through Innovation to drive Development”.

The project will have about 2000 national service personnel from tertiary institutions, who will be expected to visit house to house across the country to collect data to enable sanitation companies deliver services to communities.

Present at the ceremony were representatives from the National Authorities of Local Authorities of Ghana, CERSGIS, Town and Country Planning Division, National Service Secretariat, Ghana Statistical Service and Subah Holding Company Limited.

Addressing the gathering at the launch, the President of the National Authorities of Local Authorities, Mr. Isaac Nii Ashia Odamptey said, the data collection exercise seeks to facilitate efficient delivery of public local government service, focusing on sanitation, revenue mobilization and other municipal services across the country.

According to him, the goal of the project is to support the government of Ghana overall strategy for special data development and management.

He noted that the achievement of the goal will depend on the effort and commitment of the service personnel who will be on the field to collect data.

He continued that the project will also offer the service personnel self-improved opportunities like training in map digitization, the act of data collection and management and communication skills.

Mr. Ashia encouraged the service personnel to put all their effort and commitment into the project to make Ghana a better destination both locally and globally.

For her part, the Group Head in charge of Finance of Subah Holding Company Limited, Mrs. Adokarley Okpoti-Paulo disclosed that her outfit is mainly financing the whole project.

She explained that they will be giving the service personnel transportation and other allowances apart from what the NSS will be giving them.

“Subah is also taking care of buying all the equipment which the personnel will using in carrying out their assignment.

We are buying equipment such are tablets, lap tops and power banks,” she revealed.

She said about several millions of cedis were injected into the project last year and they are expecting the same amount this year because the project hasn’t gone 50% yet.

In terms of monitoring and supervision, she said, they have trained all regional coordinators to be able to monitor the national service personnel in their work.

She explained that the tablets will be linked directly to their office in order for them to monitor whatever they are doing on the field.
