The Nakpanduri Business Secondary School in the Northern Region has for the past four years received financial support totalling 2,650 dollars from the Spencer Scholarship Scheme of the United States.
During a visit to the school in 1999 the originator of the scheme, Dr Larry Spencer, realised that it was one of the most deprived schools in the Northern Region and established a fund to assist brilliant but needy students as well as the school itself.
The Headmaster of the school, Mr Justice Pedavoah said this at a ceremony to mark the fourth anniversary of Dr Spencer's scholarship scheme.
Mr Pedavoah said the school recently received 750 US dollars from Dr Spencer and that the money had been disbursed among a number of students who distinguished themselves academically.
He, however, expressed dissatisfaction about enrolment in the school whose population stands at 285 and appealed to parents to attach importance to the education to their children.
Mr Pedavoah appealed to the Ghana Education Service, non-governmental organisations and individuals to assist the school to complete some blocks of classrooms under construction.
The Parent/Teacher Association donated a single cabin Nissan Pick-up valued at 26.2 million cedis to the school to commemorate the anniversary.
The BESFA Rural Bank located at Garu presented books valued at four million cedis to the school.
