Nana Mbeah cautions media against falsehood

Nana Mbeah, Mponoahene (boundary chief) of Akyem Abuakwa Traditional Area in the Eastern Region, has appealed to private radio stations to stop peddling falsehood against chiefs.

He said journalist should ensure that they investigate all facts about an issue before going public with their stories and should not allow some individuals such as opinion leaders and assembly members to influence their work.

Nana Mbeah made the appeal in a press conference on Tuesday at the Kyekyewere Beposo near Teacher Mante in the Eastern Region to clarify an allegation leveled against him by some private FM radio stations on October 21, 2014.

He said that the radio stations announced that he (Nana Mbeah) had used guns and cutlasses to attack the people of Kyekyewere Beposo, and described the reports as false and unfounded, which was just to tarnish his reputation.

Nana Mbeah said following the news item Police personnel from Suhum, Nsawam and Coaltar in three police vehicles throng his house at Guakorbea Prayer Ministry at Teacher Mante to search him in his absence.

He said at the time of the police investigation it was his wife and children who were in the house but during their search they could not find any gun or any dangerous weapon as per the radio reporter assertions.

Nana Mbeah used the occasion to appeal to the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to caution the Police personnel who are sometimes used by some individuals for personal purposes to harass and attack chiefs in the area, adding that the personnel should investigate well before they act.

He called on assembly members in the area to give due respect to Traditional rulers and cooperate with them (chiefs) towards the development of the communities to improve the lives of the people.
