Nana Oye lithur, the Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, has appealed to the youth, especially students, to use social media responsibly to enhance their knowledge on current developments around the world rather than using it for the wrong reasons.

She said research she conducted showed that more and more students were rather using the internet to watch pornographic materials and other such evils and this exposed them to sexual abuses, alcoholism among other vices.

Nana oye Lithur said this during an interaction with students of the Fijai Senior High School and the Shama Methodist Junior High schools as part of a tour of some institutions in the Western Region.

She said reproductive health and drug abuse were critical issues to the government since it hampered the socio-economic lifestyle of the people.

The Minister said the government would continue to create the enabling environment for the youth to excel adding, “You as students have to study hard to take our place in the near future”.

Mr. Ocloo Nyamade, the Headmaster of Fijai Senior High School, said the school needed a sick bay, fence wall and a canteen.

Nana Oye also visited the Youth Correctional Home at Essipon where she promised setting up a computer laboratory for the vocational institute.

The Minister gave the children school bags, blanket, bed sheets, sponge and other personal items.

The Methodist School children at Shama also received a similar donation.
