Nandom, Sept 1, GNA - The Chiefs and people of the Nandom Traditional Area in the Upper West Region on Sunday held a durbar in honour of Mr Ambrose Dery, Deputy Attorney General and Minister of Justice, to express their gratitude to the President for appointing a son of the area to that position.

Also honoured at the durbar was Mr Bruno Dery, Deputy Director of the National Development Planning Commission.

Mr Sahanun Mogtari, Upper West Regional Minister, stood in for President J.A. Kufuor who was invited as the guest of honour. The Nandom Naa, Dr Puore Puobe Chiir V11, Paramount Chief of the Nandom Traditional Area and his divisional and sub-chiefs turned out in their numbers for the ceremony.

The Nandom Naa said the appointment of Mr Ambrose Dery and Mr Bruno Dery was a demonstration of the fact that the NPP government is truly committed to its slogan of all-inclusive government for the effective and efficient development of the country. He said the appointment of the two men is an honour and pride to the chiefs and people of the traditional area and wished them every success.

Mr Ambrose Dery appealed to the electorate in the Upper West Region to give President Kufuor and his government the constitutional two terms in office in the December 2004 general elections.

This, he said, will enable the government to put in place the various development projects it had initiated and also to ensure the sustainability of projects initiated under the President's Special Initiatives. Mr Mogtari said contracts for the tarring of the Nandom and Hamile town roads have been awarded and that work would start soon. He said the Lawra District Assembly is also providing streetlights for the Nandom.
