Narh-Bita Hospital offers free medical care to the needy

Tema, April 1, GNA- The Narh-Bita Hospital, a private medical institution in Tema with the assistance of a nine member medical team from the United States (US) has offered free medical care to the needy. The team, made up of two medical doctors, two nurses, one biological engineer, a medical student and three volunteers have for the past week undertaken surgeries on various diseases including cancer, fibroids, tumours, as well as gynaecology and neurology cases. The team also donated medical supplies including anaesthesia equipment, medical drugs and wheel chairs among others to the hospital.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency, Dr Henry Lawson, a medical practitioner of the Narh-Bita hospital said the team came to the country through Dr Boye Doe, a Ghanaian based in the United States to offer free services at the Echoing Hills clinic where he had worked before. He said so far twenty operations have been conducted on patients who were seen as people who could not afford to pay for the cost of the consultation and treatment while more were waiting for their turn.

Dr Lawson said it is unfortunate that the team could not attend to all the people who called at the hospital because the team was leaving soon. He said the patients who came from all over the country were reached through announcement made in almost all the churches, organisations, societies and individuals. For those who could afford to pay for their medical expenses the cost of the surgery was reduced from four million cedis to one million cedis. The hospital was also offering free test for the HIV/AIDS.
