National Service personnel in Nkoranza needs accommodation

Nkoranza (B/A), Aug. 10, GNA - Assembly Members, Unit Committees and traditional authorities have been urged to help provide accommodation for National Service personnel posted to the Nkoranza South District.

Mr. Stephen Seidu, the District Coordinator of the National Service Scheme, who made the appeal, said the personnel did not receive salary and should be assisted to enable them to contribute to national development.

Mr. Seidu was speaking at the launch of the national week programme of the service at Nkoranza under the theme, "Rekindling the Spirit of Voluntarism in Ghana, the Role of the National Service Personnel". He said the celebration of the week was to enable the service personnel to share experiences so they would identify and improve their shortfalls and build on their achievements.

The district coordinator urged the personnel to develop a high sense of voluntarism and get actively involved in community development activities to win the good will of the people as role models. "As the youth and future leaders of the country you are expected to build the country and make it a safe and prosperous haven for yourselves and posterity", Mr. Seidu added.

He commended the personnel for their performance throughout the year and expressed satisfaction with how they comported themselves at their various workplaces as he did not receive any negative report from any of the departments they served.

Mr. Seidu advised the personnel to continue to live above reproach to command respect from the people who would also regard them as responsible citizens.

The district president of the national service personnel association, Mr. Abdulai Abdul-Rahman, called on the personnel to continue to offer voluntary services in their communities and to assist in the implementation of government policies. He called on Parliament to consider the plight of service personnel and review the proposed freeze on private sector employment by the government since it would lead to mass graduate unemployment.
