Natives of Kombosigo celebrate Anonkwa

The chiefs and people of Kumbosigo, near Zuarungu, in the Upper East Region have celebrated their annual ‘Anonkwa‘Festival with a call on the government to connect the area to the national Grid.

Naba Asoyine Abelinzere, Chief of Kumbosigo made the appeal through the Member of Parliament (MP), and the Municipal Assembly in his welcome address to the sons and daughters of the land and invited guests at the ceremony.

Naba Abelinzere also appealed for the rehabilitation of the only dam in the community to help the youth engage in dry season farming to augment rain fed cropping.

The chief said having electricity would help improve economic activities in the area.

The annual celebration was to give thanks to God and the ancestors for protection and good harvest in the cropping season.

The chief said GH¢ 2,000 out of proceeds from the 2013 celebration was used in defraying the water bills of the school in the community, which was disconnected as a result of nonpayment of bills.

He thanked the Municipal Assembly for supporting the Community Clinic to get electricity.

Mr Rockson Bukari, former District Chief Executive (DCE) of the Bolgatanga Municipal Assembly, who chaired the function, urged the youth to live disciplined lives and desist from alcoholism and immoral activities during the Christmas Season.

An appeal for funds at the end of the celebrations yielded GHC1, 500.
