Bunkpurugu (N/R), April 13, GNA - The Nayiri of Mamprugu, Naba Bohagu Mahami Abdulai Sheriga at the weekend installed a regent for the Bunkpurugu Traditional Area.

This followed the death of Naba Libarboor Lambon Tapang, Paramount chief of the area.

Addressing a gathering of chiefs and people of the area, at a durbar in Bunkpurugu at the weekend, the Deputy northern Regional Minister, Mr Mohamed Amin Adam, commended the people for maintaining peace in the area and asked them to endeavour to keep it up. He noted that development could not take place where there is conflict and said the new district would need peace, tolerance and team work in order to survive and grow.

The Regent, Mr Peter Tapang, son of the late chief said his father had always stood for peace and development, and asked the people to co-operate with him and the elders to continue from where the late chief left.

He urged the chiefs in the area to guide their people to abide by the laws of the country, particularly to pay their taxes so as to help the new district grow.
