Need to conduct performance appraisal on teachers – Educationist

Mr. Kwabena Agyemang-Badu, a retired educationist, has urged heads of second-cycle institutions to conduct performance appraisal and exercises on their staff annually to check laxity and poor performance among the teachers and other workers.

He cautioned teachers to be self-disciplined and guard against immoral acts which were against the code of ethics of the teaching profession.

Mr. Agyemang-Badu made the call at the maiden meeting of the re-constituted Board of Governors of Nkoranza Senior High Technical School at Nkoranza on Wednesday.

He deplored the negative attitudes whereby some teachers absent themselves from classes, making them unable to cover their syllabuses, saying the performance appraisal and exercise would track the movements and activities of the lazy teachers to improve on the standard of education in the schools.

Mr. Agyemang-Badu, a member of the new Board, stressed the need for headmasters and headmistresses of schools to organise capacity building workshops for their Board of Governors to equip them with the desired knowledge in rendering active services towards the development of schools.

He expressed appreciation of the present state and conditions of the school and advised the teachers to work hard to commensurate the good works and efforts of the Government.

Nana Emelia Fosu Rachel, the Headmistress expressed satisfaction for the invaluable roles and voluntary services of the outgoing board members and commended the staff of the school for their cordial working relationship and support in her administration.

Mr. Kwame Owusu-Sekyere, out-going Chairman of the Board of Governors, praised the members for their good services and paid special tribute to the headmistress for her effective leadership role.
