Bolgatanga, Nov. 16, GNA - A new curriculum for kindergarten schools has been launched in Tamale for 37 districts of the Northern, Upper East and Upper West regions. It lays emphasis on literacy and language, numeracy and creativity, music, movement and dance and the physical development of the child. Mrs. Angelina Baiden-Amissah, a Deputy Minister of Education, Science and Sports, said in an address read on her behalf that early childhood care and education was a top priority of the ministry. Mrs. Baiden-Amissah said that Ghana stood to make more gains in its education system if more attention was given to early childcare and education as an integral part of primary education. She said the launch of the curriculum was an indication of the ministry's commitment to meet one of the key requirements of children's rights - "The right to quality and affordable education". She urged teachers to create an environment that provided adequate play space for active play, movement as well as a period for quiet and restful activities.
