New Edubiase (Ash), Nov.7, GNA- Members of the New Edubiase constituency of the NPP have elected Mr Francis Dorpenyor, as their parliamentary candidate for the 2004 general elections.
Mr Dorpenyor obtained 69 votes to beat two other contestants Mr. S.M. Kusi-Asante and Mr. George K. Boadu, who had 3 and 19 votes respectively at a special delegates congress held at New Edubiase. In his acceptance speech, Mr Dorpenyor, thanked the delegates for the confidence reposed in him.
He said his victory was a challenge to all members of the party in the constituency to work hard to wrestle the seat from the NDC. Mr Dorpenyor, who is also the constituency secretary of the party, promised to unite the rank and file of the party to ensure a resounding victory in the 2004 elections.
Mr Fredrick Fredua Antoh, Ashanti Regional Chairman of the party, urged the defeated candidates and their supporters to close their ranks and cooperate with the elected candidate.
He called on party supporters to intensify their campaigns to explain government policies and programmes to the people to enable them to appreciate the good work of the government.
Madan Rita Talata Asobayire, National Women's Organiser, charged women in the constituency to educate their children who were in the voting age to register and cast their votes during the elections. She urged women to take keen interest in their children's education to enable them to attain academic laurels.
