New Juaben Municipal Assembly meets

Koforidua, June 23, GNA - Tax payers have been urged to collect receipts, whenever they pay taxes to prevent revenue collectors from 'pocketing' the proceeds.

Mr Alex Kwaku Asamoah, New Juaben Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), said 93The public will do us a lot of good if they would ensure that monies paid to our revenue collectors are properly receipted."

He urged the public to report any suspicion of malfeasance on the part of our collectors to the assembly for action.

Mr Asamoah was addressing the New Juaben Municipal Assembly (NJMA) on Thursday at its first session in Koforidua.

The session was to assess the progress and the challenges of the municipality.

Mr Asamoah said the revenue generation and collection in the municipality had improved steadily, saying, as at May 31, 2011, a total of GH¢734,817 had been collected 93which indicates that the assembly had performed better to the previous year."

He called on assembly members and residents to help improve revenue generation in the area, since 93it is a civic responsibility of everyone to pay their rates" to enable the assembly to complete its projects.

Mr Asamoah said out of the 168,000 people in the municipality, 140,873 persons, representing 83.7 per cent, had registered with the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).

He appealed to assembly members to encourage residents in their electoral areas to register with the scheme to ensure that 93in time of illness they would not be too much inconvenienced."

He expressed appreciation to the security agencies for ensuring peace in the area.

Mr Hackman Owusu Agyeman, Member of Parliament (MP) for New Juaben North Constituency, called on assembly members to unite and brainstorm on issues that could create more employment for the youth in the municipality, adding that, they should not let party politics mar their duties as assembly members.
