Agona Kwanyako (C/R), Feb 17, GNA - The Kwanyako Water Treatment Plant Rehabilitation and Expansion project would be commissioned on Wednesday 21 February 2007.
Mr Cobbie-Kessie, Managing Director (MD) of the Ghana Water Company, announced this when he inspected the final preparation for the commissioning of the 24.136 million-Euro about 176 Billion-Cedi-project, on Friday at Agona Kwanyako.
The MD said the project formed part of the government's aim to meet the United Nations Millennium Development Goal (MDG) to reduce the number of people who are unable to reach or to afford safe drinking water by half by the year 2015.
Mr Cobbie-Kessie said the new plant was expected to produce 35 million gallons of water a day to compliment the3.1 million gallons for the same period from the existing plant, which was woeful inadequate to meet demand due to population increase in the area.
He commended the contractors for completing the project seven months ahead of schedule and said the government had secured a 4 million-Euro about 4 billion cedis for supply to Senya Bereku to solve the perennial water problem facing communities in the area. Mr Cobbie-Kessie said another water project supply water to Gomoa Dawurampong and its surrounding communities would be started soon under a master plan for the Central Region this year.
Mr Michael Botse-Baidoo, Project Co-ordinator, said the new treatment plant would serve Agona Swedru, Agona Nyakrom, Breman Asikuma and the Ajumako-Enyan-Essiam area.
