A new Jasikan Lorry Park worth GHc438,798 has been commissioned by Mr. Joseph Nii Laryea Afotey-Agbo, Volta Regional Minister, at a brief ceremony at Jasikan.

He urged the various chairmen of driver’s and transport unions to co-exist as business entities at the station rather than it becoming an avenue for hostilities and animosity.

Mr Afotey-Agbo said the multiplicity of unions should stimulate them to evolve strategies towards harnessing the opportunities available to them instead of engaging in unproductive acts.

The Regional Minister observed that the facility, comprising of waiting sheds, a toll booth, washrooms and drains, would provide the enabling environment for direct and indirect employment to some of the teeming unemployed youth in the area.

He entreated the Managers of the Jasikan Assembly to appoint a competent management to supervise the station and collect the necessary revenues accruing to facilitate the construction of additional structures at the park.

Mr Afotey-Agbo urged the drivers and transport unions to pay the appropriate tolls, check against overloading, and speeding and ensure members regularly maintained their vehicles to prevent unwarranted accidents on the highway.

He paid glowing tribute to the late Regional Minister and Member of Parliament (MP) for Buem, Ford Henry Kamel, and the former District Chief Executive (DCE), Nana Kumessy-Bonsy, under whose tenure the project was conceived and nurtured.

Mr Daniel Ashiamah, MP for the Buem constituency, entreated stakeholders to adopt a maintenance culture at the station, to extend the lifespan of the facility.

He disclosed that the deplorable Eastern Buem roads would receive the requisite facelift to ease the difficulties of plying those roads.

Mr Killian K. Abrampah, DCE for Jasikan, urged stakeholders to build a new corporate identity for the district, which demanded rededication to duty.

Nana Bugru Brantuo VI, Jasikanhene, commended government for making funds available for the completion of the project.
