New President for Upper West Regional House of Chiefs

Wa, Oct 23, GNA - Kuri-Buktie Limann, the Gwollu Kuoro, was on Friday sworn into office as the new President of the Upper West Regional House of Chiefs for a three-year term, at a ceremony at Wa. Also sworn into office was the vice President of the House, the Dorimon Na, Na Sohimininye Danah Gore II.

There are presently, five vacancies in the seventeen-member House of Chiefs to be filled due to deaths and litigation.

The Wa Circuit Court Judge Alhaji Mohammed Mustapha who administered the oath of office expressed concern that cases, which should have otherwise been settled at the courts of the chiefs, are now being sent to the regular courts.

Mr Sahanun Mogtari, Upper West Regional Minister, extended the government's commendation to the people for the warm reception given President John Agyekum Kufuor during his recent three-day tour of the region.

He urged the chiefs not to compromise their role as unifying agents and to make suggestions that would help the government to move the nation forward.

Kuoro Kuri-Buktie Limann said his administration would encourage peaceful settlement of all chieftaincy disputes in the region, and appealed to the Chieftaincy Secretariat and the Attorney General's Department to post a legal counsel to the House to facilitate trials on chieftaincy disputes in the region.
