A CEREMONY has been held at Kwahu Asubone No.3 in the Kwahu South District to dedicate the town's Presbyterian Kindergarten and JSS buildings put up by the chief of the town, Nana Bamfo Dwobeng, at the cost of over ?126 million.
Preaching at the function, Rev. Clement Asiedu Asante of Mpraeso District of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana (PCG), praised the chief for his kind gesture and his concern, love and his desire to assist in training the nation's future leaders.
He compared the chief's gesture to that of King Solomon in the Bible, who put up a temple in Israel for the worship of God.
He urged the people to contribute their quota to enhance and develop the area.
Nana Dwobeng on his part commended his elders and the entire people for their understanding and their communal spirit, which has brought some improvement in the area.
He disclosed that he has single-handedly spent a lot to put things right in the town and therefore called on the authorities concerned to go to the aid of the people.
He was worried of the deplorable stat of the road leading to the town from the main Accra-Kumasi trunk road. He appealed to the Forestry Commission to release a portion of the forest reserve in the area to a large number farmers who are finding it difficult to acquire land for farming.
Touching on his gesture to put up the school buildings, Nana Dwobeng said recently, part of the old JSS block collapsed and nearly killed some of the school children, hence his gesture to put up a new one.
He appealed to the Ministry of Education and the Ghana Education Service (GES) to post adequate teachers to man the schools since without teachers, the putting up of the building would be meaningless.
The chief assured that all teachers posted there would be adequately accommodated.
The District chief Executive (DCE) for Kwahu South, Mr. Raymond Osafo Djan, said one area we have neglected, as a nation in our educational policy is the provision of decent school block especially at the basic level.
He stated that the NPP government has put in place the various institutional structures to help improve the quality of education in the country. One can conveniently mention the special committee in place to conduct the needed assessment in the education sector so as to come out with the appropriate measures for the advancement of education in the country.
He also mentioned the institution of GET Fund and HIPC fund all skewed in favour of the education sector.
The DCE disclosed that the Kwahu South District Assembly for the past two years or so has embarked upon aggressive and pragmatic measures to improve the educational status in the district by providing a number of scholarships to a number of students from the SSS level to the universities.
The assembly has also contacted the three technical institutes in the district to manufacture mono and dual desks for first cycle schools in the district.
He assured that the Assembly will continue to put up more school blocks this year as it did last year and spend ?80 million on students scholarship.
The assemblyman for the area, Mr. Emmanuel Boansi Dankwa, on behalf of the Kwahu South District Assembly, donated a number of library books worth over ?500,000 to the school.
Other speakers at the function were the MP for Nkawkaw, Hon Kwabena Okerchire Adusah, the General Manger of Presbyterian schools, Rev. S.K. Mensah, Mpraesohene, Nana Ampadu Daaduan II and many other dignitaries.
