New Tafo (E/R), April 17, GNA - The chiefs and people of New Tafo Zaabu Zongo have appealed to the East Akim District Assembly and the Member of Parliament for Abuakwa North to help extend electricity and other social amenities to the area.

Speaking at a durbar of chiefs and people of the area, the spokesman for the Chief of New Tafo Zaabu Zongo, Nana Asare Bediako, said the people in the area had done all that they had to do in the past but the area lacked electricity.

The durbar was organized by the New Tafo Youth Health Club (NTHC) to present the results of a survey conducted by the groups on the needs of the community to them.

He said though the area had a layout, the road network had not been developed and it becomes a problem to get a vehicle to transport the sick though the area is not far from New Tafo. Nana Bediako said the area lacked public place of convenience and a refuse dump and so people had created small refuse dumps around their homes.

He appealed to the people of the area to support the efforts of the NTYHC to help the community to get connected to the national electricity grid.

The General Secretary of the NTHC, Mr Emmanuel Bruce, said with the confirmation of the results of the survey, the club would form a team made up of representatives of the club, the community, chiefs, religious leaders and other recognized groups to follow the Right Based Approach (RBA) policy to ensure that the community got electricity. He said the Ark Foundation, a non-governmental organization, through the RAVI Project, had promised support with the cost of transportation of the group to the policy makers and organizations charged with the responsibility of ensuring the development of the local communities.

Ms Rebacca Aziave of NTYHC appealed to parents in the community to support the education of the girl child.

The assemblymen for the area, Mr Prosper Degolo, expressed his support for the project and called on the people to give the project their maximum support.

The Project Co-ordinator of Ark Foundation, Abass Hussein, appealed to the traditional authorities in Akyem Abuakwa to enforce sanctions against people who refuse to take part in development projects.
