The Chairman of the Nima Neighborhood Watch Committee, Mr. Ibrahim Jekle, has called on government and other stakeholders to assist his outfit to curtail crime in the area

He said in spite of efforts by the neighborhood Watch Committee to clear the area of crime, the problem keeps resurfacing adding that morale had gone down among members due to lack of resources to facilitate the committees operations.

Mr. Ibrahim Jekle said criminals in the area were drawing the youth into crime as most of the youth had taken to smoking marijuana, hawking on the streets and indulging in other vices like ‘sakawa’, at the expense of their education.

He said police efforts to address the situation have yielded no results and that there were occasions when members of the neighborhood committee sustained injuries in the course of their operations.

He said in spite of this, the committee would continue to partner the police in their efforts to combat crime in the Nima–Mamobi neighborhood.

Mr. Jekle said crime on the Nima highway is still a major problem and urged the police to intensify patrols to clear the area of its hardened criminals.

He said crime among the youth was high and cited a recent incident when a boy killed his father with a pick axe whilst another youth lured his colleagues to Sunyani in the Brong – Ahafo region only to take their lives.

Mr. Jekle said his outfit was poised to ensure incident free elections in December.**
