Kumasi, Sept. 26, GNA 96 The Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) Junior Secondary School (JSS), has appealed to the Ghana Education Service (GES) and the Computerised School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS) Secretariat to take immediate steps to place 96 of their students in their selected senior secondary schools. The 96 candidates, who were among the 468 presented by the school for this year's Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), were not offered placement in any secondary school by the CSSPS. They had between aggregate seven and 26.
In a statement signed by Mr Kobina Amo-Aidoo, Chairman, and issued in Kumasi on Tuesday, members of the PTA expressed their 93disaffection and dissatisfaction at the placements offered our children at this years' BECE=94.
It said what baffled the parents was that there had not been any reported cases of examination malpractice or cancellation to warrant such a tragedy and said the executive and entire members of the Association felt dissatisfied and unhappy about the turn of events. The statement said the KNUST JSS was one of the elite basic schools in the country and had championed the preparatory grounds for senior secondary schools across the country. The school also had experienced teachers and counsellors, who held four counselling sessions every year before selections were made for final year students.
It said the parents now found themselves in a very uncomfortable situation and appealed to the Minister of Education and the Director General of the GES, to take immediate steps to correct the anomaly and place the children in their selected schools. 26 Sept. 06
