Bonte (B/A), Dec 8, GNA - Some 128 farmers in the Nkoranza District were honoured at the district's celebration of the 19th Farmers' Day on Friday.
They were presented with cutlasses, Wellington boots, pieces of wax print, bars of key soap, spraying machines, lanterns and certificates of merit.
Mr Fuseini Moro, 38, from Yefri emerged the district's best farmer and took home a bicycle, a pair of Wellington boots, one piece of wax print, two bars of key soap and five cutlasses as his prize.
The District Chief Executive, Mr Kwame Ampofo-Twumasi, congratulated the farmers and reiterated the government's commitment to their welfare through the provision of credit facilities for organized farming groups.
He urged the farmers to seize opportunities provided by the government and to increase production.
Dr Kofi Amakye, the District Director of Agricultural Services, advised farmers to seek the assistance of agricultural extension officers to improve their yield.
He asked them to cultivate the new variety of maize, known as 'Mamaba', which has a high market price, to improve their living standards.
