Deputy Superintendent of Police, Joseph Owusu, Nkoranza South Municipal Police Commander, has warned against the cultivation and smoking of Indian hemp (Wee) in the Municipality.

He said the cultivation and smoking of “wee” is criminal and urged the general public to report such activities to the police to promote security and peace in their communities.

He said this at a forum organized for the people of Nyinase, Jerusalem, Kwafre, Asuoso and Asempanaye, at Nyinase, during the weekend.

The forum was aimed at educating the people about some of the laws of the land and the relationship between the police and the public.

DSP Owusu said available records indicated that some people were cultivating Indian hemp in some parts of Nkoranza and cautioned such people to stop because a special police task force would soon clamp down on their activities.

He urged the people to regard the police as part of the community and co-operate with them to enable them to benefit from their services and advised parents and guardians to ensure their children avoided indulging in criminal activities.

He said the municipal police would soon train about 20 young men and women as community police volunteers to assist them in combating crime.

Mr Akrapim Baffoe, Assembly Member, commended the police commander for educating the people on their rights and responsibilities as citizens.

He complained of the activities of some illegal chainsaw operators in the communities and appealed to the police to help apprehend such “economic saboteurs” to check the depletion of the forest in the area.**
